In rare circumstances, market conditions may deviate significantly from normal operations, potentially impacting the reliability or representativeness of our indexes. Such conditions may include:

  • Extreme market volatility
  • Major exchange outages
  • Widespread network issues affecting multiple cryptocurrencies
  • Regulatory actions with immediate, significant market impact

In these scenarios, CoinAPI reserves the right to take the following actions:

  1. Temporary Suspension: Index calculation may be suspended if data integrity cannot be assured.
  2. Alternative Data Sources: We may utilize secondary or alternative data sources as outlined in our data hierarchy.
  3. Methodology Adjustments: Temporary adjustments to calculation methodologies may be implemented to maintain index integrity.

Any such actions will be:

  • Decided by the Index Committee
  • Communicated to stakeholders as promptly as possible
  • Documented and reviewed post-event

Rule book adjustments resulting from exceptional market conditions will be reviewed within 30 days to determine if they should be reversed or made permanent.
